How Long It Takes
The fault we see most in Marine City isn't a spring that snaps clean - it's a cable that's frayed for months on a pulley or drum nobody's looked at, until one strand gives and the door drops crooked on one side. That's a different repair than a full spring failure, and on a lot of these doors it's a faster fix once we're on site.
Marine City's housing stock runs old - the median year built here is 1949, decades ahead of the 1978 median across the wider service area. A door installed or replaced on a house that age is more likely to be running on original extension springs with a cable-and-pulley setup than the torsion hardware you'd find on anything built after the 1970s. Those cables wear against the pulley wheel over years, and the fray is often invisible until the door binds or hangs crooked.
We come out from Port Huron, about 20 miles away, so we're not sitting in a truck around the corner. Once we're there, cable replacement on a standard residential door - one or both sides - usually runs under two hours if the drums and pulleys are still sound. If the pulley bracket has rusted through, which happens on doors this age, that adds time we won't know until we see it in person.
Stocked Parts
We carry standard-gauge lift cable and pulley hardware sized for the extension-spring setups common on houses built before 1960, which covers a good share of Marine City's stock given that median 1949 build year. We also stock cable for torsion-drum systems, since some homes here have had doors replaced with newer hardware over the years.
What we don't stock on the truck: cable drums and pulleys for a handful of older, oversized commercial-style doors, or for doors that have been retrofitted with non-standard hardware. Those get ordered, and we'll tell you plainly if that's the case before we start rather than after.
What You Pay
We don't quote a cable repair over the phone without seeing the door, because the difference between a clean two-cable swap and a job that also needs a new pulley bracket or drum is real money, and we'd rather be accurate than fast on a number. What we can tell you: this is a smaller job than a spring replacement, and if your door is only showing wear on one cable, we're not going to sell you a full hardware swap you don't need. If the bracket or drum has rusted through from age - again, more common on Marine City's older housing stock than on newer builds elsewhere in the service area - that's a separate line item, and we'll show you the part before we install it.
